“If you love me you will keep my commandments.” Such a powerful phrase which I turn on its head, as I am an outsider, bringing my own experience to it unfettered by convention of thinking. Most people seem to say follow the commandments, confess your sins and then you find Jesus. But actually you can interpret what Jesus says to mean: if you have an open heart centre and feel love for Jesus then you will already be following his commandments.
And to remind us the Jesus commandments are ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ And when you experience unconditional love then these two are also true because when you feel that connection with all other humans then you cannot help but love your neighbour as yourself and you will already feel deeply connected and at one with God, already your heart full of the Divine.
So it seems to me all the other things that are thrown at gay people by the scriptures pales into insignificance and smacks of human unenlightened oppression, not spiritual teaching.
